Classic Alan Pape Williams Boatyard 73 Ft ketch moored in Valencia, Spain
Unique and distiguished design by Alan Pape, built 1977-90 of iroko and mahogany by the well-known Williams Boatyard in Falmouth, Cornwall, UK. Completely refitted during 18 months in 2018/19: hull, rigging, all electronics were taken care of, masts repainted etc, total costs near to €300.000. As a traditionally built wooden boat of high quality, her interior is warm in winter and cool in summer. The building is carvel planked with 50mm Iroko on laminated 100mm Iroko frames every 300mm. The fastenings are copper rivets, and all other bolts are of stainless steel. The decks are 20mm marine ply with 20mm teak planking. The rest of the boat on deck and down below is solid Brazilian mahogany. Mast supports is galvanised steel. The keel is 8 tons of cast iron, the chain plates and all fixtures on deck are either stainless steel or bronze. Bow cabin with two beds in V-shape, followed by heads on starboard. There is a complete pantry in U-form on starboard and a cosy dinette in front of it. Further back is the enormous saloon with the main entry. The saloon has a gangway on starboard with two beds on top of each other which leads to the big owner cabin including en suite heads and a separate access to the cockpit. On mid-ship and port is the engine room with it’s working area. Engine running flawless. There is an invoice with V.A.T. paid on the bare hull from 1977.

Signe is probably the most beautiful sailing yacht ever built in the USA and a true inspiration to many others! Her building by Renaissance Yachts took 5 years and resulted in an unrepeatable /"spirit of tradition/" masterpiece designed by Bruce King, an auteur of the yachting world, who believes in curating sheer beauty out on the water – Signe was perhaps his /"pièce de résistance/". She is flawless and harmonious under any angle with an extraordinary transom and a proud and sophisticated bowsprit. The 30ft saloon of Signe is where the magic realism of light truly sweeps you off your feet. Interior designer Joseph Artese is perhaps the only person who could meet King’s exceedingly high commitment. Artese noted that “extensive use of sky lighting as an artform is probably the most unique feature of this yacht” and indeed, there are no fewer than 60 ways to let the light in – ranging from skylights to hatches, ports, and prisms, an endless array of places for sunlight and ocean colours to stream. That blend of natural light on wood is never going to be anything, but visual poetry, and when it comes to wood, both designers seem to have an intimate understanding of carpentry, colour and craftsmanship. Hawaiian koa, olive wood, birdseye maple, varnished ash, solid teak – these are all names that invoke soft forest scents, wondrous warmth, and a commitment to beauty. Beauty aside, Signe wasn’t created to be an ornament at sea. She offers her owners a stunning performance when out on the water with an extremely powerful hydraulic rig, draft of 2.5m with the centerboard up and the ability to reach 1800 nautical miles thanks to the 450hp Detroit diesel engine. She is truly a pleasure for those with a sailor’s heart; there is no joy like working the Bermudan ketch. The proof is right there, the song of Signe is not one that will be forgotten – Eric Clapton named the song “Signe” after her in 1992. All in all, Signe represents a truly unique opportunity to acquire a part of American heritage.

LLC OWNED
Built 1967. Extensive Retrofit from 1998 to 2019. Like New Condition.
Steel Motorsailer yachts used to be popular vessels for world sailors until the 70s. The arrival of production yachts in the 60s and the explosion of the charter industry in the following years changed the public perception of yachting.
Today only a few builders offer customized options at a premium price.
Iolair Mara is a unique yacht built-in CA in the late sixties. Her ¼ inch steel hull, her tri keels design, her 5’6”’ draft, and her 3000 nm range under power will sail expeditions all around the globe or entertain charter clients in the Bahamas, HI, or Alaska.
In 1998 she was hauled out for a $ 2.5 M retrofit that was 60 % completed in 2005.
A series of dramatic events follow. She was sized. Stayed 6 years on the hard shrink-wrapped.
The actual owner got her out of the yard in 2012, completed the 40% remaining refit to get her to her original glory.
She was lucky to have found John. It has been a perfect match for both of them. John loves a strong, well-powered world cruiser. He is now proud to offer this showcase vessel for a portion of the price it would cost to build her today.
The Owner will be available to train the buyer and going through the vessel equipment, systems, structure, detailing the yacht maintenance and running procedure.
She is a working vessel in luxurious yachts clothing. Stunning true teak inside and out, (not teak ply) state of the art power plant, new engine in 1998 by Harbor Diesel in Long Beach CA (172 hours at the odometer in 2012 then sailed to Ensenada and hasn’t docked the dock since).
New electrical panel & wiring between 1998 & 2004, new plumbing 2003. New massive Ideal windlass anchoring with 440 ft of 7/16 J4 chain in 2016, 175 lbs Mantus anchor 2016, 60 lbs CQR stern anchor on a GHK Fabrication hydraulic massive horizontal windlass (commercial fishing grade windlass) 2012 new rigging system. New sails from 2005 were installed on the vessel in 2012. They were never sailed until we shot this video. 2001 sandblasted to bare metal ultra-sonic testing in 2012. 12 zincs bar new in 2001 replaced every 3 years. A set of zincs is available on the vessel.
She is well balanced and comfortable in strong weather thanks to her ketch rig. Keels cooled engine and generator for dry exhausts. The 2 side keel is filled with antifreeze. Only 3 though hull on the boat; intake for the head and the intake sea chest. Another through-hull in the side for the water maker.
She is a dock queen American-built hull that could be a successful charter in the US territory thanks to her beautiful interior.
